What is Phonology ?
PHONOLOGY
Assalamualaikum warrahmatullahi wabarokatu.
Assalamualaikum warrahmatullahi wabarokatu.
Definition:
Phonology is the study of how sounds are organized and used in natural languages.
Discussion:
The phonological system of a language includes
- an inventory of sounds and their features, and
- rules which specify how sounds interact with each other.
- An example of phonology is the study of different sounds and the way they come together to form speech and words - such as the comparison of the sounds of the two "p" sounds in "pop-up."
- An example of phonology is the study of the movements the body goes through in order to create sounds - such as the pronunciation of the letter "t" in "bet," where the vocal chords stop vibrating causing the "t" sound to be a result of the placement of the tongue behind the teeth and the flow of air.

First of all, daddy's lil girl, the neon lights in the background is distracting.
BalasHapusWhat is the difference between Phonetic transcription and Phonemic Transcription?
Hi Tatum Derin, thank you for your advice.
HapusPhonemic transcription, also sometimes known as ‘broad’ transcription, involves representing speech using just a unique symbol for each phoneme of the language. Using the Mitchell and Delbridge symbols. While, phonetic transcription is placed between [square brackets]. When we transcribe phonetically, we are representing not abstract mental constructs, but rather the actual sounds in terms of their acoustic and articulatory properties. Note that speakers of a language are deaf to these kinds of contextual variations in pronunciation
And seriously? "Welcome to my place" in fun neon lights?
BalasHapusI think the flashing lights will add a pleasant impression to my blog
Hapuswhat's the different between phonology and phonetic ?
BalasHapusPhonology or also known as phoneme is what your language,or dialect treats as an individual sound that conveys a difference in meaning, while phonetics is a branch of linguistics that studies about producing the sounds.
HapusThanks for visit my blog :)
Hapusnice explaination. but can you give more example about phonology ?
Hapusfor example, the final 's' sounds in 'helps' and 'crabs' follow a simple-to-understand phonological rule. In these words, the 's' sound changes depending on what speech sound immediately precedes it.
Hapusshort information! is pronounciation including phonology?
BalasHapusHehehe, yeah I'm just making short explanation,so everybody not bored when they read it.
HapusOf course Pronounciation is including phonology, cause phonology related with sound and how our mounth pronunce it 😊
what's interesting about studying linguistic phonology?
BalasHapusYou can speak fluent in English, you can speak like native speakers 😊
Hapuswhy we must learning about phonology ?
BalasHapusPhonology have related with sounds. So when you learn phonology, you can speak fluent in English, like native speakers 😊
HapusCan u explain phonological processes and rules?
BalasHapusphonological rule is a formal way of expressing a systematic phonological or morphophonological process or diachronic sound change in language. Phonological rules are commonly used in generative phonology as a notation to capture sound-related operations and computations the human brain performs when producing or comprehending spoken language. They may use phonetic notation or distinctive features or both.
Hapusas a teacher, how to bring the phonology theory into class that we teach?
BalasHapusRelated to phonology which is a field of science related to speaking skill, of course a teacher have to give students more talk, which can be story telling, singing, poem, public speaking, etc. And then the teacher will improve the students pronounciation if there is a needn. And how to bring the phonology theory into the class ? teacher just give explanation of phonology theory I think, that's the simple one.
HapusBtw,your question was challenging 🙂
What is phonology related to grammar?
BalasHapusOfficially yes. I think every English lesson have related to grammar, but not really important in phonology
Hapusdoes phonology have related with pronunciation ?
BalasHapusOf course yes. Phonology is how sounds are organized
Hapuswhat the function if we learn phonology?
BalasHapusYou know how sounds are organized and used in natural languages
Hapuswhat makes phonology interesting to learn?
BalasHapusYou can speak English fluent, like native speakers. And in phonology there is no formula
HapusWhy I can speak English fluent just with phonology?
HapusBecause in phonology, you will learn how to speak clearly, how to produce the sounds
HapusAnd you will know how the way sounds come out
HapusCan you give examples of a few words from phonology?
BalasHapusfor example, the final 's' sounds in 'helps' and 'crabs' follow a simple-to-understand phonological rule. In these words, the 's' sound changes depending on what speech sound immediately precedes it.
HapusA few words from phonology :
-sits
-makes
-takes
-etc
actually how is the rule in phonology?
Hapusphonological rule is a formal way of expressing a systematic phonological or morphophonological process or diachronic sound change in language. Phonological rules are commonly used in generative phonology as a notation to capture sound-related operations and computations the human brain performs when producing or comprehending spoken language. They may use phonetic notation or distinctive features or both.
Hapusoh. but what is diachronic sound change in language? What the meant?
HapusSorry nofita,I didn't get the point what are you asking about. Can you explain using simple words ?
HapusI meant i'm not got the point of the diacronic sound change in language! Can you explain about diacronic?
Hapusdiacronic sound change in language i mean that sounds in phonology can't change from time to time
HapusOh oke i got it. are there part of phonology ?
HapusYes
Hapushow many part of it?
HapusKomentar ini telah dihapus oleh pengarang.
HapusFour.
Hapus1. Segmental phonology
2. Supra-segmental phonology
3. Diagchonic phonology
4. Synchronic phonology
May you explain of the fourth?
HapusSynchronic phonology means it studies teh patterns of sound regardlessbof the process of historical change
Hapusoke i got it. Thank you for this discussion Son
HapusYour welcome nofita
Hapuscan you give an example of phonology in everyday life??
BalasHapusWhen you speak
HapusYou said that phonology is rules which specify how sounds interact with each other, so a pronounciation is a important part of it, can you explain relation between sounds interact with pronounciation ?
BalasHapusphonology is the study of the movements the body goes through in order to create sounds - such as the pronounciation of the letter "t" in "bet," where the vocal chords stop vibrating causing the "t" sound to be a result of the placement of the tongue behind the teeth and the flow of air
HapusChange your theme display, makes difficult to read.
BalasHapusHmm,this blog is mine. So,I like the display. Maybe next time I'll change, when I get bored
HapusSo,what is the simple defenition about phonology?
BalasHapusPhonology is the study of how sounds are organized and used in natural languages
HapusCould you give me an example about phonology?"
BalasHapusfor example, the final 's' sounds in 'helps' and 'crabs' follow a simple-to-understand phonological rule. In these words, the 's' sound changes depending on what speech sound immediately precedes it.
HapusSo,what is the simple defenition about phonology?
BalasHapusPhonology is the study of how sounds are organized and used in natural languages
Hapussonia, please explain the advantages of learning phonology
BalasHapusWell ,you will study of different sounds and the way they come together to form speech and words - such as the comparison of the sounds. And,addition, you can speaks English well
HapusSonia what is learned in phonology besides sound?
BalasHapusI don't know. As far as I know, phonology only learned about sound
HapusSame with phonetic?
BalasHapusNo,a little bit different.
HapusPhonetics deals with the production of speech sounds by humans, often without prior knowledge of the language being spoken, while phonologh is about patterns of sounds, especially different patterns of sounds in different languages, or within each language, different patterns of sounds in different positions in words etc
So,pronuounciation is important for phonology ?
BalasHapusYes
HapusI think your blog is good and easy for understanding who read it
BalasHapusThank you 🙂
Hapusdo you have used phonology in you conversation??
BalasHapusYes,I have
HapusWhat do you mean "sound are organized"
BalasHapusAn example of phonology is the study of different sounds and the way they come together to form speech and words - such as the comparison of the sounds of the two "p" sounds in "pop-up."
HapusRelated with what phonology to English skill ?
HapusSpeaking
HapusWhy ?
HapusBecause, phonology is the study of the movements the body goes through in order to create sounds
HapusSo,that's not related to another skills ?
HapusRelated,but not in depth
HapusWhat the main point' of study phonology ?
BalasHapusThe main point of phonology is sound
Hapushow do you explain to students that learning is very important for him?
BalasHapusI will say that learning phonology can helps you to build your confidently to more speak, even in front of people. Because,in phonology you learn about how to speak clearly and right
Hapusif you are faced with the question why are you more interested in the field of ponology what would you answer?
BalasHapusThere's no formula
